Benito Arrieta Gorrochategui (in religious life, Benedict of St. Paul of the Cross) was a professed priest of the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ. He worked with the sick and refugees, including in the Passionist retreat in Bethany in the Holy Land.

Later, in the Dominican Republic, he was committed to helping the poor to whom he ministered– providing electricity, a post office, primary and secondary schools, a police station, roads, and rural chapels. On a spiritual level he offered religious instruction, celebrated the Sacraments, and established religious associations.

He cared for the sick and organized health care clinics. He also assisted patients in psychiatric and infectious disease hospitals.

The diocesan inquiry ended in 2007.
