Connecticut, on July 23, 2025. Sister Marie was born in Italy to Vito and Anna D’Aprile on September
18, 1934. The family immigrated to the United States when she was an infant. She entered the
Sisters of the Cross and Passion in 1962 and was professed on May 29, 1965.
As a dedicated educator, Sister Marie taught for many years in schools served by the community.
Her final years in education were spent at Bishop McVinney School in Providence, Rhode Island. Her
devotion to students, especially in this inner- city school, was evident in her warmth, hugs, concerns;
and, more importantly, in a style of teaching that accommodated the needs of each child.
Upon her retirement, Sister Marie returned to Connecticut to become a caregiver, while working
part time at Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center, Farmington, and volunteering wherever there was
a need. In her final years her ministry of presence continued through interaction with residents at
Executive Square and St. Mary’s Home.
Sister Marie’s love of family was evident in her many stories of the joys and sorrows of its members.
She is survived by her sister Theresa Crescimani. Her brothers, Achille and Benjamin, predeceased
her. She is also survived by six nieces and three nephews: Ann Linskey, Rachel Mitchell, Sarah
Crescimani, KelliJane Kelly, Elisa-Beth D’ Aprile, Cheryl-Ann Stone; David, Daniel and Matthew
D’Aprile.
