Venerable IGNATIUS SPENCER

George Spencer (in religious life, Ignatius of St. Paul of the Cross) was a professed priest of the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ.

An activity that characterized Spencer was the “Prayer Crusade” that he spread throughout Europe, with an indomitable commitment and perseverance amid criticism and difficulties. He did not limit himself to inviting only Catholics to pray for unity; rather he invited everyone. His social status gave him access to important figures, such as the Pope, the Emperor of Austria and Napoleon III.

He was declared venerable in 2021.
