ORDINATION OF BISHOP EMERY KIBAL MANSONG’LOO

Viceprovince SALV (Congo)

Bishop Emery Kibal was appointed Bishop on May 6, 2015 by Pope Francis for the diocese of Kole, in the province of Kasai-Oriental, in the Democratic Republic of Congo and was ordained and took possession of his diocese on August 9, 2015. The headquarters of the Diocese of Kole is located in a rather remote place to reach.

In spite of this factor, many people traveled to Kole for this extraordinary event. The delegation of bishops came with the new bishop on the 7th and on Saturday afternoon it was followed by the arrival of Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya of Kinshasa who was to preside over the ordination ceremony with two other bishops: Bishop Ambongo Fridolin, until now apostolic administrator of the diocese, and Monsignor Madila Fulgence, president of the ecclesiastical province of Kasai Oriental.

The Bishop of Tshumbe, President of the Episcopal Conference of Congo, together with bishops from the diocese of origin of Bishop Emery and elsewhere were also present. The presidents of the association of Major Superiors in Congo (men and women) were also present as also a delegation from the Episcopal Conference of Congo.

There was a notable presence of the Passionists, together with their Provincial as well as the Passionist Sisters of St. Paul of the Cross with their Provincial.

Present on the occasion were also the representative of the Head of State, the Governor of the Province of Kasai-Oriental and many other political, civil and military authorities.

All the diocesan clergy, all the diocesan religious, all the missionaries who work in the diocese were also present. The most impressive thing was the presence and active and enthusiastic participation of God’s people who are in this diocese. The faithful came from all over to see and bless the Lord for the gift of their new pastor.

The celebration began at 9.30 am and ended at 4:00 p.m. The festive lunch took place at 17:00 which was followed by cultural events throughout the evening.

The motto of Bishop Emery is “Fiat Voluntas Tua” (Let your will be done). Around these words the new bishop also received many words of encouragement for his new responsibility of feeding the flock of this diocese.

We wish our confrere every success in his new pastoral responsibilities and we remember him in our prayers. May the Charism and spirituality of St. Paul of the Cross, our Father and Founder, be to Bishop Emery Kibal, sources of wisdom and encouragement for this ecclesial service. May the Virgin Mary, accompany and protect him with her maternal tenderness.

Fr. Vital Otshudialokoka-Onasaka, CP
Vice-Provincial Superior
