Fr. Paolo Podda (Paolo di San Giuseppe) passed away on Saturday 24 March, at 6:30 AM at the retreat of the Scala Santa in Rome. During this past year his health had been deteriorating, but he was still sufficiently autonomous; however, the situation worsened and he died of heart failure. Fr. Paolo was born on April 28, 1942 in Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy) of Theobald and Mariangela Usai.
He was a diocesan seminarian in Sardinia and after completing high school he joined the Passionists at Monte Argentario in 1963. He was professed at St. Joseph’s Novitiate on 9/28/1964. He studied theology at the Lateran University in Rome and spirituality at the Teresianum University. He was ordained priest in Rome on 3/9/1968 in the Basilica of St. John Lateran. He was the spiritual director of seminarians in Nettuno (Italy) and then director of postulants and theology students. He was superior in the retreats of Sant’Angelo, Vetralla, Rome, Rocca di Papa and Nettuno.
Several times he was provincial Consultor. He devoted himself to the formation of young people, families and preaching. He was an esteemed preacher, spiritual director and the director of the MLP.
We will remember him with affection and gratitude.
