Father Joseph D. Guzinski, a Passionist priest, died at Immaculate Conception Monastery in Jamaica, New York, on Monday, January 11th, 2016. He was 93. Born on November 27th, 1922 to the late Julius and Gabriella Guzinski. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Leonard Gotz of Jamaica New York and his brother, Ted Guzinski of Shenandoah, PA. Father Guzinski graduated from Holy Cross Preparatory Seminary, Dunkirk, NY in 1943. He entered the Passionist Novitiate soon after graduation and professed his vows at Saint Paul of the Cross Monastery, Pittsburgh, PA in 1944. He studied philosophy at Mother of Sorrows Monastery, West Springfield, and at Saint Gabriel’s Monastery, Brighton, MA. He completed his theological studies and was ordained at Saint Michael’s Monastery, Union City, New Jersey in 1951.

Father Guzinski preached parish missions and retreats from 1952-1956. In 1956 he left the United States to begin a twenty four year career as a missionary in Jamaica, West Indies. He also served as a missionary from 1985-1990. He returned to Immaculate Conception Monastery, Jamaica New York in 1991 and served in various ministries until his death in 2016.

The Funeral will take place at Immaculate Conception Monastery, Jamaica, NY. The Vigil will be on Thursday, January 14th from 7pm to 9pm at the Immaculate Conception Monastery Choir. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Monastery Parish Church, Jamaica NY on Friday, January 15th, 2016 at 11 AM. Internment will be in the monastery cemetery.
