On September 14, 2016, on the tenth anniversary of his death,  the body of Bishop José Mauro Pereira Bastos was exhumed from the family plot where he was buried in the city of Serra (ES), Brazil, and was transferred to a “memorial” that was prepared in the seminary of his first diocese in Janaúba (MG), Brazil.  His tomb in the seminary has become a place of pilgrimage where many people go to pray and remember the “Bispo do povo” (the Bishop of the Poor), as he was called by the faithful of his diocese.

Bishop Mauro was a Passionist of the former VICT Vicariate, currently the EXALT Province of Brazil.
