On 29 November 2013, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, proclaimed 2015 the Year of Consecrated Life, starting on the First Sunday of Advent, the weekend of November 29, 2014, and ending on February 2, 2016, the World Day of Consecrated life.  The year also marks the 50th anniversary of Perfectae Caritatis, a decree on religious life, and Lumen Gentium, the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Church.

This is to be a year of grace that is to be celebrated with great joy by all religious.  On 31 January 2014, Cardinal João Braz de Aviz explained the principal objectives of the year:  “to make a grateful remembrance of the recent past,” and “to live the present with passion” while “embracing the future with hope.”

In response to the call of Pope Francis, the Office of General Secretariat will publish materials related to consecrated life from 2015 to 2016 which will include documents published by the Holy See as well as resources on Passionist History and Spirituality.

In line with this, the Superior General, Most Rev. Fr. Joachim Rego, CP has written a “letter of reflection” to the entire congregation about the Year of Consecrated Life.
