A new Passionist Bishop was appointed: Fr. Luiz Fernando Lisboa – CALV

Dear Brothers, Sisters and Friends in the Passionist Family, it is with great joy that I announce the news today, 12 June 2013, of the appointment by the Holy Father Francis of our brother

Fr. Luiz Fernando Lisboa

as Bishop of the Diocese of Pemba in Mozambique.

On behalf of the whole Congregation, I extend to Bishop-elect Luiz Fernando my congratulations on this honor to serve God and the people of Pemba as Shepherd. Of course, we also appreciate that with this honor comes a heavy responsibility for which he will need to trust in the mercy of God and also rely on the support of our prayers. I assure Bishop-elect Luiz Fernando of my fraternal support and prayer for his ministry of pastoral leadership and for the people of Pemba in the years ahead.

Bishop Luiz Fernando Lisboa will be 58 years old next December 23.  He was born in 1955 in Barão de Japarana, Brazil. He professed first vows in 1977 and he was ordained on 10 December 1983, therefore this year he will celebrate 30 years of priesthood. He was superior of the local Passionist community and the mission in Pemba, Mozambique.

Fr. Joachim Rego, cp
Superior General
