2017 PASPAC Leaders Meeting
Jakarta, Indonesia 6-8 February 2017
The Leadership of the PASPAC Configuration met in the Jakarta Provincial House of the Province of Our Lady of Peace. This large, modern house was more than sufficient to house all of the Leaders, along with translators and the two Executive Officers who were able to attend the meeting. The missions in China and Vietnam were unable to send their superiors, otherwise all others were in attendance.
The agenda, though a bit daunting, was easily gone through in the time allotted. Topics from the current situation in our Japanese Vice Province currently to financial reporting were covered. More distant preparation for the 2017 PASPAC Assembly, to be held in Melbourne, Australia in November this year, was considered as well as a report of the recent meeting of the September 2016 meeting of the Extended General council in Rome.
Special care was given to coming to an accurate reporting of the statistics of the Configuration in lieu of the upcoming 2018 General Chapter. Another major discussion was the whole area of fund raising abroad for our regional entities in need of more financial assistance. A pilot program of Passionists from China was successfully completed in Australia in the past few months. This area is of major importance to China, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea.
Further, the proposal of the Superior General to found a new mission in the country of Myanmar in Southeast Asia was seriously considered. Further discussion will take place during the course of the upcoming Assembly. This discussion followed the presentation of the recent visit to Myanmar by the Superior General and a Provincial Consultor from Holy Spirit Province.
